With Christmas just around the corner, you can be forgiven for hot having your home as the top priority right now. With school nativities, parties, and shopping, life gets busy at this time of year. Not to mention the dark evenings and colder weather. Everyone just wants to hibernate. Which is why it can be nice to put off some home repairs until the spring. Unless there are urgent ones of course. But you can save money by regularly checking your home. You might just want to get Christmas and the colder weather out of the way first! Here are some top repairs or things that you should be checking in springtime.
Over winter the garden can get a bit deserted. Not as much is growing, and it isn’t exactly the weather for a barbecue. So when you can get out there, there will be plenty to do. One thing that you could do is to give the driveway or patio area a jetwash. It takes off all the thick dirt, grime, and moss that will have accumulated over winter. It will make it look like new! They are quite cheap to hire, or you could see if a friend has one you could borrow. Then you could give the windows a good wash as well as the rest of the home exterior. If you have things like wood decking, then it might be worth seeing if it needs to be resealed, for example. Weeding is always a good idea in the run-up to spring. Then you can give your bulbs a fighting chance of pushing through.
Cold and miserable weather can affect the roof. The wind might have blown a few tiles out of place, or moss might be growing on the roof. So it might be worth getting a tall ladder so that you can check on the roofing yourself. If there are lots of loose tiles, then getting a professional in is a good idea. You don’t want it to lead to any damp coming into the loft area, as that could lead to a few problems. So check your roof as regularly as you can.
Over winter more mud and dirt can be brought into the home. So start things off well by giving the carpets a thorough clean. Again, this is something that you can hire relatively inexpensively. But it can make such a difference, especially if you have children running around the house. Giving all the flooring a proper clean is a good idea too. Tiles and wooden flooring can still accumulate a lot of dirt. It just isn’t as obvious with them! You could even get your floor tiles regrouted if necessary.
Check on caulking and sealant in the bathroom. Over time it can become loose which isn’t what you want. So think about re-caulking the bathroom. It will make it look much cleaner too. Bleaching the bathroom and using a limescale cleaner is a good idea too. Then the whole room will be looking like new.
