It’s hard once you have kids to make sure the garden in your yard is appropriate for them. After all, you need to make sure they keep safe and happy while they are playing outside in your yard. But at the same time, you want to keep it looking fantastic so that it’s one of the best areas in your home. However, it’s so easy to make mistakes when you are planning out your garden. Here are some things homeowners forget to do when designing the perfect family garden.
They don’t add a kid’s area
When you let your kids play outside, you may risk ending up with a messy garden. After all, they start bringing out toys and soon they are spread around the garden. And you may decide to buy them a slide. But soon their outdoor furniture starts multiplying and you have no adult area in the yard. Therefore, to get a good balance, you should make a separate kid’s area in the garden. That way, they can have their own area in the garden where they can play while outside in the yard. It means their toys won’t end up scattered all over the garden. You could even get them a cute summer house where they could sit to play while they are in the back yard. After all, if it’s a muddy day, you don’t want to end up with it all over your home as they will sitting on the lawn!
They don’t consider all weather
A lot of people think about summer and bright sunshine when they are planning their perfect garden. But you need to make sure you consider the colder seasons in your plan. For example, if you are thinking about adding a log cabin to your yard, you need to make sure it will stay in good condition during the colder months. You will have to look into chinking log cabins so that it stays looking great for years to come! Also, if you are planning on beautiful new garden furniture, you need to buy a canopy or an umbrella so that you can use it in colder weather. You can read more about how to prepare your garden for winter on my previous blog.
They don’t think about the plants
Of course, we love choosing the best plants from the garden centre to brighten up our garden. After all, they can make it look visually fantastic. But unless you have lots of spare time, you need to double check how much upkeep the plants need. If you are busy, some plants that require a lot of attention might not be suitable. Also, check how likely it is that weeds and nettles are going to grow around these particular plants. You want to ensure your kids can play without potentially getting hurt from one of your beautiful plants!
And remember to consider some form of shed for your tools. After all, you can’t leave them laying around in your garden with kids about!
